Hearts That Give, Hands That Serve
Our Volunteers Are the Heartbeat of Care to Share—Bringing Comfort, Compassion, and Hope to Every Life They Touch
VOLUNTEERS
The Heartbeat of Care to Share
At the very center of Care to Share’s mission are the compassionate souls who choose to give their time, energy, and hearts: our volunteers. They are the quiet heroes—neighbors, survivors, caregivers, students, retirees, and friends—who show up not because they have to, but because they want to. They come with open hands and open hearts, ready to serve others walking through one of the hardest times of their lives. Whether it’s offering a warm smile, lending a listening ear, or simply being present, our volunteers make a powerful difference in the lives of those facing cancer.
Many of our volunteers have a deeply personal connection to the cause. Some have been patients themselves. Others have cared for a loved one with cancer. And still others come simply because they believe in kindness and want to share it. No matter their background, each person brings something beautiful to the table—a sense of compassion, a spirit of generosity, and a willingness to be there when it matters most. They help pack Sunshine Packets full of comfort items and encouragement. They sit and share stories, hold space for grief, and celebrate victories, big and small. They deliver loaner medical equipment to patients who need it but can’t afford to buy it. They help organize and share donated items like wigs, hats, scarves, and post-mastectomy supplies—always with care and dignity.
They also lend their hands at events, fundraisers, and in the everyday work that keeps our programs running. Some help in the background—making phone calls, entering data, or preparing mailings. Others bring creative talents like sewing, baking, photography, or simply a joyful presence. Every hour given, every small act of service, creates a ripple effect of hope in someone’s life. Volunteers are often the reason a patient feels seen. They are the reason someone walks out the door with a little more peace than they walked in with.
If you’ve ever wondered how you can make a difference—this is it. Volunteering with Care to Share is more than just giving your time. It’s becoming part of a community bound together by love, resilience, and a shared desire to help others heal. You don’t need medical knowledge or special training. All you need is a willing heart.
Becoming a volunteer is simple. Just reach out to our team by calling (620) 644-9090 or visiting our office to request a Volunteer Interest Form. Once we receive your form, we’ll schedule a brief orientation where you can learn more about our mission, the people we serve, and the different ways you can help. From there, we’ll help you find a volunteer role that matches your interests, availability, and comfort level.
Whether you can give one hour a week or one afternoon a month, your time is a precious gift. And to someone in the middle of a cancer diagnosis, it just might mean the world. You don’t have to change the whole world—just one life. That’s where real impact begins.
